Beekeeping Project

In 2009, we launched a Beekeeping Project as part of the Arboretum. We have twenty five beehives with Africanized bees. Africanized bees are the most productive, but they also are the most aggressive. So, they need to be handled very carefully. Bees produce honey from the local, native blossoms, and hardwoods. They pick nectar, pollen and water at the end of the rainy season.

This is a micro-project that produces, bottles, labels, and sells the honey to the local community. So, nothing is added, and nothing is artificial. We emphasize the importance of beekeeping to promote biodiversity and cross-pollination of sustainable crops.
